Brendan Dowd

Brendan is a new member of the band but it feels like he’s been around for years.  His first gig with High Range was at the Portsmouth Music Hall at the New Hampshire Folk Festival (we had just met him 4 days before) and he slipped right in, unnoticed – that’s because he could play all of the right notes right off the bat (it kind of ticked us off that we had practiced for so many years and he just made it all look so easy…)

Guess that’s because he’s educated in this music stuff, and education can pay off in the end.  He studied bass at Plymouth State College (with one of Ellen’s old college buddies, Don Williams),  and has played reggae, rock, country, jazz, you name the genre.  That’s why this guy can lay down a solid groove, use sensitive dynamics and can solo – yahoo!

Originally a guitar player, he moved to upright bass because it only had 4 strings and he thought it might be easier than guitar.  Thing is, he plays those solos as if he’s playing a Fender Telecaster --  go figure.   But listen, if you’re trying to steal a bass player, we’ve got this one tied down good so don’t bother.
