Matt Shipman
Matt joined High Range in 2006. It seemed like a natural thing to do – he can write songs, is an awesome picker on many instruments and most importantly – he’s really a nice guy so he fits in with the rest of the super nice guys in the band. He is the historian in the group as he majored in traditional music studies in college. Did you ever want to know where a tune came from? Matt knows piles of tidbits on those old tunes – interesting stuff.
He gets around too. He just released his own top-notch album – Highway Shoes” (which features some High Rangers and alum) that includes all-original Matt tunes. He plays with the Splittin’ Hairs duo, Slant 6, and the Mill City Ramblers. Matt was a semi-finalist at the Great Waters Songwriting Contest. Adding his songwriting skills to High Range just re-enforces the top quality song-writing coming from this band. Check out his song on the new High Range CD. He is a great teacher and great guy to hang out with.
